Which format should I choose?
JPG is the smallest choice for a photo with no transparency needs. PNG is best for graphics, screenshots and anything that needs a transparent background. WebP usually beats both for a similar quality at a smaller size, but a small number of older tools still do not open it, so check where the file is going first.
Why keep one converter for every format instead of separate pages?

What actually changes when you convert in each direction
Converting from JPG to PNG does not restore detail that JPG's compression already threw away. PNG output starts with the quality slider at 100, which is lossless: it keeps those softened pixels exactly, in a larger file. Lowering the slider trades exactness for a smaller PNG by trimming the color palette. Converting from PNG to JPG usually shrinks the file a great deal, since JPG discards information PNG was keeping, so it is worth finishing any editing on the PNG first. WebP is the flexible middle choice: at the same quality setting it usually comes out smaller than a JPG that looks about the same, and unlike JPG it can keep transparent areas. Saving a JPG back to JPG more than once adds a little more loss each time, since every save recompresses whatever detail is still there, so keep a PNG or WebP original if you expect to convert the same image again later.

Does this tool support GIF or TIFF as an input?
GIF is accepted, converting its first frame since none of the output formats here support animation. TIFF needs its own decoder, so use the dedicated TIFF to JPG tool for that format instead.
What happens if I convert a PNG with transparency to a format that does not support it?
Converting to JPG fills transparent areas with a background colour you choose, since that format cannot store transparency. Convert to WebP or PNG instead to keep the transparency intact.
Is there a limit to how many files I can convert at once?
