Which format should I choose?
JPG is the smallest choice for a photo with no transparency needs. PNG is best for graphics, screenshots and anything that needs a transparent background. WebP usually beats both for a similar quality at a smaller size, but a small number of older tools still do not open it, so check where the file is going first.
What is BMP, and when would you actually need it?
BMP is an uncompressed Windows bitmap format, decades old, that stores every pixel with no compression at all, making files far larger than a JPG or PNG of the same image. Almost nothing on the modern web asks for BMP; it mainly shows up as a requirement from older desktop software, certain industrial or embedded systems, or a specific print or scanning workflow that still expects it. Convert to BMP only when something specifically demands it, since JPG, PNG or WebP will always be the smaller, more practical choice otherwise.

Does this tool support GIF or TIFF as an input?
GIF is accepted, converting its first frame since none of the output formats here support animation. TIFF needs its own decoder, so use the dedicated TIFF to JPG tool for that format instead.
What happens if I convert a PNG with transparency to a format that does not support it?
Converting to JPG or BMP fills transparent areas with a background colour you choose, since neither format can store transparency. Convert to WebP instead to keep the transparency intact.
Is there a limit to how many files I can convert at once?
