Are these presets guaranteed to be accepted?
The pixel and DPI values match each preset's published official size at the time they were checked. Requirements do change, and individual offices sometimes apply extra rules on background, expression or recency of the photo, so always confirm the current requirements with your issuing authority before submitting.
Why does the file need the correct DPI, not just the correct pixel size?
A photo printing service or an online application portal often reads the DPI value stored inside the file to work out the physical print size, not just the pixel count. Two files can share identical pixel dimensions but print at different physical sizes if their DPI differs, which is why this tool writes the DPI directly into the downloaded JPEG rather than leaving it at whatever default your camera or phone saved, a step a plain crop tool does not do.
Why does the tool show a head and shoulder guide?
Most passport and visa rules specify how much of the frame the head should fill and how centred it needs to be, not just the final pixel size. The guide overlay marks roughly where the top of the head, the eyes and the chin should sit within the crop, making it far easier to check the framing meets that rule before downloading than trying to judge it by eye against a plain rectangle.

What DPI does a passport photo need?
Most passport photo rules specify 300 DPI at an exact pixel size, which is what each preset here sets automatically in the downloaded file.
Can I print several passport photos on one page?
Yes, turn on the print sheet option to tile copies on a 4 x 6 inch or A4 page at 300 DPI with cut lines between them.
What if my country is not listed?
Use the custom preset to enter your own size in millimetres or inches plus the required DPI.
Does the tool check my background colour or lighting?
No, it handles size, DPI and framing only. Most passport rules also require a plain light background and even, shadow free lighting, which need to be right in the original photo before you upload it here.
Can I use a photo taken on my phone?
Yes, any clear, front facing photo works. Take it against a plain background with even lighting for the best chance of meeting the issuing authority's other requirements.
Does this work for a visa photo as well as a passport photo?
Yes, several of the presets, such as the India visa and Saudi Arabia and UAE visa options, are specifically visa sizes rather than passport sizes, since the two sometimes differ even for the same country.
